The days are getting cooler and we’re going into the cold and flu season. Add to that the Corona virus and we all need to make sure our immune system is operating at peak efficiency. I’ve been doing this for three years now with doTerra’s OnGuard blend.

My first step begins in October when I change what I diffuse from Autumn blends (click here to see some Fall blends) to mostly OnGuard. You can start giving your immune system a little support, by diffusing either OnGuard alone or one of these diffuser blends below.

As the school year progresses, we all get a little tired. To keep the baddies at bay, I create a Roller-Ball of OnGuard and put on the bottoms of our feet at bedtime a few times a week.

The Smell of Autumn

The days are getting shorter and the temperatures are finally getting crisper…Autumn is here!

To help myself (and family and coworkers) transition smoothly, I’ve started diffusing some Autumn blends.

My frequently used blends have been Happy Harvest and Apple Pie. Gingersnap Cookie will be coming as soon as I get Ginger 🙂.

Your Bed & Little Friends

Part of my passion for Essential Oils is the desire to limit toxic exposure for my and my family’s health. But there’s also another good reason to go “green” – resistance. We’ve all heard ther stories of bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics in hospitals. It’s also in the world around us.

This post is about thyme, lemongrass and bed bugs. From the article: ‘The synthetic pesticides used to control bed bug infestations face two problems: the insects are gaining a tolerance to them, and many consumers are looking for “green” alternatives they consider safer to spray in their living spaces.

Happy Tummy, Happy You

Gut health. It’s not the sexiest of topics, but it’s important. Lemongrass. That sounds better. And smells wonderful. Plus, it can help your tummy on the molecular level.

This quick article begins, “In this day and age of industry and convenience, we are all exposed to toxins on a daily basis. … the gastrointestinal tract is one of the most significant sites of toxin exposure throughout the entire body. Repeated exposure to toxins in the gastrointestinal tract can lead to suboptimal function and detrimental changes…”

The Family That Oils Together…

We had a very lazy day this past Sunday. As electronic media was not on the afternoon schedule, my 6 year-old son decided we should take out all our oils and see which ones are our top five favourite smelling oils.

I tried really hard to have one oil at each ranking. I didn’t quite succeed, but I did better than my son: my Top Five have 11 oils – my son’s had 24 🤗. (See picture above. )

For the record, here are my Top Five Favourite Smelling Essential Oils are.

  1. Clarycalm
  2. Lavender, Cinnamon & Balance
  3. OnGuard & the forthcoming children’s blend Rescuer
  4. Wild Orange & Lemon
  5. Peace, Holiday Joy & Siberian Fir

From my fragrance-favourites, my Uses-Favourites are, without a doubt, OnGuard and ClaryCalm! Not sure they do? Come back in a few days and I’ll tell you why they’re my favourites.

Getting It Down to Size

It’s a new year and many people make resolutions. I’m normally not one of them, but this year I am. Resolution: to have less pain by being stronger in health. If you know some of my journey, it’s not some abstract thing and this post isn’t either. Let me explain.

Weak core strength lead to overworked back muscles which lead to painful right hip muscles. Add a bad movement and, BAM: inflammation so bad I was having trouble walking. Enter my newest blend!

This blend got me through the Christmas holidays!

The main oil is Lemongrass. It contains limonene, which is a compound that has been shown to reduce inflammation. The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy also list it’s benefits as: gastrointestinal disorders, exhaustion, acne, and insect repellent. Plus, it smells great.

I then chose Rosemary essential oil as it’s known as a pain reliever. Preliminary studies support its pain relief benefits and suggest that it may be more effective than acetaminophen.

Next was lovely lavender. Lavender essential oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. (It also helps heal minor burns,  scratches and bug bites.)

Last, but definitely not least is Frankincense essential oil. Since the benefits of this incredible oil is so long, I’m including this link, but the main benefit is regulation of healthy inflammation responses.

Fresh and Clean Even the Morning After

I was in pain. No matter what I did, my mouth hurt. To be specific, the gums in the upper left of my mouth. The dentist recommended I use that super strong antiseptic mouthwash. You know the one, the one that grays you teeth if you even look at coffee. And since I can’t whiten my teeth due to my gums, I wanted to stay faaaaar away from that antiseptic mouthwash!

What I did instead was make my own mouthwash with Essential Oils, baking soda and an old marmalade jar. It’s so good that when I rinse my mouth before bed, my teeth aren’t fuzzy the next morning!

Here’s the recipe:

Directions: put a pinch of baking soda in a 250 gram jar. Drop the Essential Oils into the baking soda (to aid in dispersion. Then fill with distilled water. Shake before use and store in the refrigerator. (Lasts about 3 weeks in the fridge.)

Pain Bomb-My High Heels Did Me In

I went out to a Girls’ Night Out a few nights ago. I wanted to get dressed up so I put my high-heels on. The ones I never wear. The next morning my back was not pleased.

A few days later, a friend mentioned this wonderful blend: the Pain Bomb (also known as the Morphine Bomb). So I tried it. Wonderful!!

Here’s my recipe. I’ve seen blends with double the drops I’ve used, but Essential Oils are plants based medicine and I subscribe to the “less is more” way of thinking.
